SMURF – Sustainable Multi-Use of Rural Forests
Skogens Mångbruk deltar i europeiskt projekt för skogens framtid
Föreningen Skogens Mångbruk har blivit antagen till det internationella projektet SMURF – Sustainable Multi-Use of Rural Forests, som samlar aktörer från femton europeiska länder. Syftet är att stärka och synliggöra skogens mångfunktionella värden och utveckla nya sätt att leva och verka med skogen som bas.
Genom projektet kommer Skogens Mångbruk att genomföra 15 djupintervjuer med skogsägare runt om i hela Sverige. Intervjuerna ska visa hur skogsägare i olika delar av landet brukar sina skogar, vilka inkomster och utgifter de har, vilka behov som finns och vilka visioner de bär på inför framtiden. En viktig del handlar om att identifiera vilka nya affärsmöjligheter skogsägare ser utöver traditionell virkesproduktion och biomassa.
Det kan handla om naturturism, träförädling, lokala livsmedel, kulturmiljöer, sociala värden eller tjänster som bygger på ekosystemens förmåga att bidra till välbefinnande och klimatanpassning. Skogens Mångbruk vill visa bredden av vad skogen kan vara – inte bara som resurs, utan som livsmiljö, arbetsplats och framtidens landsbygdsplattform.
Resultaten från intervjuerna blir en del av en gemensam europeisk kunskapsbas som ska användas för att stärka mångbrukets förutsättningar och skapa nya stödstrukturer för småföretagande och innovation.
Genom SMURF-projektet vill Skogens Mångbruk bidra till en ny berättelse om skogen – där hållbar ekonomi, biologisk mångfald och social utveckling går hand i hand. Skogen rymmer så mycket mer än råvara; den rymmer framtidstro, företagande och livskraft.
Skogens Mångbruk joins European project shaping the future of forests
The association Skogens Mångbruk has been accepted into the international project SMURF – Sustainable Multi-Use of Rural Forests, which brings together partners from fifteen European countries. The aim is to strengthen and highlight the multifunctional values of forests and to develop new ways of living and working with forests as a foundation.
Through the project, Skogens Mångbruk will conduct 15 in-depth interviews with forest owners across Sweden. The interviews will explore how forest owners in different regions manage their forests, what their income and expenses look like, what needs they face, and what visions they hold for the future. A key focus will be to identify new business opportunities beyond traditional timber and biomass production.
These opportunities may include nature-based tourism, wood processing, local food production, cultural heritage, social values, and services that build on the forest’s capacity to promote well-being and climate adaptation. Skogens Mångbruk aims to demonstrate the full breadth of what the forest can be – not only as a resource, but as a living environment, workplace, and platform for future rural development.
The results from the interviews will contribute to a shared European knowledge base designed to strengthen the conditions for multifunctional forestry and to develop new support structures for small businesses and innovation.
Through the SMURF project, Skogens Mångbruk wants to help shape a new narrative about the forest – one where sustainable economy, biodiversity, and social development go hand in hand. The forest holds far more than raw material; it holds hope, entrepreneurship, and vitality for the future.
